The collection illustrates Alojzij Šuštar's theological and pastoral work as a priest and archbishop who led the Catholic Church in the Archdiocese of Ljubljana despite the restrictions on freedom imposed by institutions under the communist government’s control. The Collection includes books, original manuscripts, Šuštar’s published articles and his correspondence and polemics, which demonstrate his critical stance toward Slovenia’s communist regime in the late years of the regime and in the period of transition to democracy.

Archbishop Frane Franić Collection

Archbishop Frane Franić Collection testifies to the public work of the Split-Makarska Archbishop Frane Franić during the socialist period in Croatia and Yugoslavia. Franić became a prominent cultural critic in the so-called Clerical Associations Case, when he opposed their establishment because they were initiated by the Party-controlled state. The collection is deposited in the Archdiocesan Archives in Split.

Archive Citizens Movement of Enviromental Library Grosshennersdorf

The Großhennersdorf environmental library, founded in 1987, and its accompanying Civic Movement Archive stand as a testament to the opposition in the GDR occurring outside of large urban areas. Due to its proximity to both Poland, and the ČSSR, transnational influences are readily visible.

Archive Song and Social Movements

The Berlin Archive "Song and Social Movements" collects reports from the GDR singer- and songwriter movement from the 1960s onwards. The materials that are managed by a non-profit organization show how difficult it can be to investigate cultural opposition between the extremes of supporting and opposing the state.

Archive of László Beke

As an art historian and curator, László Beke took an active role as both a participant and theoretician in the development of the Hungarian neo–avant-garde movements that had been marginalized by the cultural politics of the time in Hungary. Beke’s private archive, which is kept at the Budapest City Archives, provides a precise imprint of his activities: instead of working from the perspective of a critic, he engaged the artists as a partner. In this spirit he initiated many exhibitions and projects, the documents of which provide the backbone of the archive, complemented with the outcome of his systematic collecting activities that began in his early teens.
