Andrei Siniavskii was a Soviet dissident, writer and literary critic and student of literature. The bulk of the collection includes his writings, correspondence and photographs. It is an extensive collection, containing material that he produced and collected over his lifetime, together with his wife Mariia Rozanova, who was lesser known but also a significant figure in the dissident movement. These include his writings, diaries, correspondence, interrogation and records from the 1966 trial of Siniavskii and another writer Yuli Daniel, printed matter, sound recordings, photographs, and memorabilia relating to Russian literature, civil rights in the Soviet Union, political trials and conditions of political prisoners in the Soviet Union, and Russian émigré affairs. This collection also includes records of the Russian-language Paris journal Sintaksis, published and edited by Siniavskii himself.

Archive Citizens Movement of Enviromental Library Grosshennersdorf

The Großhennersdorf environmental library, founded in 1987, and its accompanying Civic Movement Archive stand as a testament to the opposition in the GDR occurring outside of large urban areas. Due to its proximity to both Poland, and the ČSSR, transnational influences are readily visible.

Archive of the GDR-Opposition at the Robert Havemann Society

The Archive of the Opposition to the GDR, founded by the Robert-Havemann Society, is the largest and most significant amongst the so-called ‘reappraisal archives’. With its impressive collection of personal documents, the Archive offers a wealth of alternative and contrasting source material to that found in state and party files.

Artists' Publications from the GDR

Artists' books, became worldwide starting the end of the 1960s a medium of communication between graphic artists, writers, photographers and artists working with new media. Soon this medium was discovered by a young generation of artists in the GDR, who distancing themselves from socialist realism, used it as a vehicle for sharing not only their artistic views as well as dissenting ideas, which eventually draw the attention of the Stasi. This collection of GDR artists’ books has its origin during the GDR times when artists approached the Saxon Library, then active in purchasing graphic art from throughout the GDR.

Artpool

Artpool is an archive, library, documentation center and place of research concerning the progressive, non-official trends in Hungarian art in the 1970s and 1980s (including alternative art scenes and groups, underground art magazines, samizdat publications etc.) and contemporary avant-garde tendencies.

Artpool – beside being a research institute - defines itself as an active archive: seeks out new forms of societal activity, takes a formative role in processes, organizes events, documents, archives them and freely distributes information.
