In 2005, "ostPUNK! - too much future " an exhibition presenting the punk scene as a unique East German subculture and as "the attempt of young people to move freely within a system of limitations" opened. The transformation of punk culture through the 1980s, its overlap with the subversive painting, performance and art-film scenes, as well as repressive measures utilized by the Ministry for State Security were presented. The exhibition’s script was drafted by Michael Boehlke and Henryk Gericke. It was produced by Christoph Tannert, director of the Künstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin, which had provided financial resources for the extensive research. Within a period of only 16 days, the exhibition recorded nearly 5,000 visitors. The first edition of the accompanying exhibition catalog sold out on the opening night. Reimagined to include locally-specific events, "ostPUNK" traveled to Dresden (2007), Halle (2008) and other cities.
