Establishment of the Film Archive Foundation, 2004
In order to organise, preserve and disseminate its extensive archive, in 2004 Video Studio Gdansk (VSG) established a Film Archive Foundation "Roads to Solidarity" (Fundacja Archiwum Filmowe "Drogi do niepodległości"). Since the beginning Jacek Borzych has been acting as a Chairman of the Managing Board. Foundation's primary goal was to organise and preserve (digitize) an extensive collection of VSG, including several thousands of recordings and films. The far-reaching goal is to preserve the memory of cultural heritage and social changes. This is achieved through common dissemination of the video materials (many of them are available online, on the Foundation's website). Establishment of the Foundation was supported by various former activists, such as Bogdan Borusewicz.
Foundation operates the materials which are used by various filmmakers, and public and private television programmes. For education purposes, and in order to preserve the historical heritage, the institution also cooperates with local authorities and various private organisations (for organising festivals, exhibitions, film screenings, debates, etc.).
