Czech writer and former dissident Václav Havel had visited the Museum of Czech Literature since the 1960s. After 1989, as a president of Czechoslovakia and then of the Czech Republic, he was also a frequent guest. Thus, in 1998, he decided to donate the first part of his personal collection, the originals of the letters addressed to his wife Olga from prison, to the Literary Archive of the Museum of Czech Literature. He concretely donated 161 letters from the years 1979 to 1983 and 11 letters written in 1989. Another substantially larger part of Václav Havel’s personal collection was stored after his death in 2011 in the Václav Havel Library.
