At a press conference on the occasion of International Archives Day on June 9, 2015, the Archives State Agency presented the archive of former President Zhelyu Zhelev, the first Bulgarian democratically elected head of state, donated by Zhelev’s heirs. Assoc. Prof. Mihail Gruev, Chairman of the Archives State Agency, noted that it was one of the most significant donations to the archives in the last decade. He stressed that the collection help elucidate the period of the transition from the totalitarian regime to democracy.
