Publication of volume about the Hnatiuk Collection
The UMA’s curator Aniza Kraus won a major Ohio Humanities Council grant in 2010 to publish a catalogue about the Hnatiuk Collection. This high-quality publication includes expertly photographed illustrations and also essays by textile conservators and folk art specialists explaining the significance and value of this collection, largely comprised of textiles from the 19th and early 20th centuries. The only other Cleveland institution to win a major grant that year was University Circle, Inc. Not only did the grant allow the UMA to publish a scholarly book on their textile collection, it garnered the attention of other organizations in the Cleveland area. As a result of this publication, the Costume Society of America selected the UMA Collection for its 2016 “Angels Project,” offering more than $30,000 worth of materials, training and in-kind support.
