The journalist and public figure Arthur Koestler's life is widely documented. His autobiographical writings include the Spanish Testament (1937), the Scum of the Earth (1941), the Dialogue with Death (1942), the Arrow In The Blue: The First Volume Of An Autobiography, 1905–31 (1952), The Invisible Writing: The Second Volume Of An Autobiography, 1932–40 (1954), and the Stranger on the Square (1984). Out of the dozen of biographies written on him the latest is Koestler: The Literary and Political Odyssey of a Twentieth-Century Skeptic (New York: Random House, 2009) by Michael Scammel.
