Prison notebook of Edeltraud Eckert, 1953-1955
In 1950, Edeltraud Eckert was sentenced to 25 years imprisonment for alleged espionage. In prison, she was allowed a personal notebook where she wrote down poems and songs. Eckert was denied access to adequate healthcare following a work accident and died in 1955. Her prison notebooks disclose a personal history from the early days of the GDR. They also show a writer, who could never perform as such.
