The decision to establish the Research Institute and Archives for the History of the Hungarian Regime Change (RETÖRKI) was made by the Hungarian Government in 2013 [Government Decree 83/2013 (III. 21.)]. In this decree, the Government specified the tasks of the Institute, which operates as a budgetary institution under the supervision of the Prime Minister’s Office. The aims of the Institute are to discover preludes to the change of regimes in h (1989-1990), present the social and political conditions of the socialist period, establish a chronology of the change of regimes, and examine the present the changes of regimes in the neighbouring countries. The Institute collects and preserves sources and private documents relevant to the changes of regimes.
