The European Film Gateway (EFG) project was initiated by the Association des Cinémathèques Européennes (ACE) and the Europeana Foundation, and operated from September 2008 to August 2011. The Polish National Film Archive joined the project in 2010. EFG enables presenting collections of various European film archives (i.e. French, Romanian, German, Portuguese, Belgic, Italian, Estonian, and Polish) on Europeana.eu website. Overall, 16 archives and 6 other partner institutions contributed to the EFG webportal. Targeted at the scientific researchers and the interested public alike, the EFG facilitates online access to historical documents and leads directly to the archives that hold the originals.
