The Unity of the Brethren Baptists was formed in Slovakia before World War I. A Slovak and a Czech Unity of the Brethren Baptists existed at the time of the Czechoslovak Republic. From the birth of the federation in 1968, three unities of Baptists were active in the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic. After the dissolution of Czechoslovakia, a common Unity of the Brethren Baptists of the Czechs and the Slovaks existed for one more year. The UBB is a free association of independent congregations.
