Christian Community [Keresztyén Gyülekezet] has functioned since the 1980s under the leadership of Zoltán Bubics in Zalaegerszeg. Its roots go back to the 1950s. The group was based on a community in Budapest, with which they had a strong relationship.

The community remains a very close, conservative new religious movement today. As a consequence of this, we have almost no information about them. The state security documents are the only sources on them. Naturally, one must be very critical of these documents as sources, because the political police considered the group a hostile, harmful, illegal sect which broke laws concerning the freedom of assembly and the freedom of the press.

The investigation documents are the most informative. The members’ aim was, first and foremost, to refute the police’s charges, but they talked a bit about the community by emphasizing that they had not done anything illegal. According to the leader of the community, Zoltán Bubics, they held a meeting and had Bible-reading sessions in the mid-1950s with his relatives and other individuals. He was brought in touch with Attila Pethő, the head of an alternative religious community in Budapest. Bubics said that they followed the tenets of Bible, which included that they had to respect the existing social system and work fairly. So this was not simply a response to an external expectation, but was part of their inner convictions.
