The independent province of the Hungarian Jesuits was created in 1909. In the interwar period, towards the 25^th anniversary of its foundation, the idea was hatched of making a monograph on the history of the Hungarian Jesuits. Ferenc Bíró OSJ, leader of the Hungarian Province, entrusted András Gyenis OSJ and István Siska OSJ with this task. The Archive of the Hungarian Province of the Society of Jesus was founded in 1934 by András Gyenis OSJ. After many sources had been collected, the Archive of the Hungarian Province of the Society of Jesus was founded in 1934 by András Gyenis OSJ.
