In 1999 the newly built Brigitte-Reimann House of Literature opened its doors to the public. Reimann's original house at the same location had to be demolished owing to its poor construction. The cornerstone ceremony documented on the picture for the new building took place on July 21, Reimann's 65th birthday. With the opening of the House, the Brigitte Reimann Archive and a newly conceived permanent exhibition on her life and work were also unveiled.
