Digitization was probably the most important initiative for many East German "rehabilitation archives" in the early 2000s. One of the impulses to digitize all traditional samizdat magazines from the GDR was provided by the Großhennersdorf environmental library. They received support from the Dresden University of Applied Sciences and the German Research Society. Within several years starting from 2006, almost 14,000 pages, some of very rare Samizdat publications, had been uploaded to, tagged and made searchable online at www.ddr-samisdat.de. Due to server problems the website is currently no longer accessible, and as such, the project remains unfinished.
