Selection from the Collection of the Studio of Young Artists by TATC (“Two Artists, Two Curators”)
Stúdió Gallery, Budapest
The Studio of Young Artists (FKS) has a wide-ranging collection of works purchased with state funds over the first thirty years of its existence. This method and the role of the organisation during those years (practically every professional young artist was a member for some time) resulted in a quite heterogenous material.
This constellation of works can be considered as the imprint of the FKS’ genealogy. In the summer of 2004, members of the independent TATC group were asked by the current board of the association to conduct a research in the collection.
First, TATC paid a visit to the repository, where the process of selection was documented. Then, an exhibition of the selected works was staged, fleshed out with the conception of Willi Bongard, who suggested experimenting with a game format to outline a system of aesthetic criteria.
