What we talk about when we talk about “opposition” in the cultural realm under Communism? This is what Slovak and Czech scholars sought answers for at the conference “Art under State Socialism: Possibilities and Limits of Political-Historical Interpretations” hosted by the Department of Musicology at Comenius University in Bratislava on 2 December 2016. The conference was addressed to the academic community in Bratislava. Apart of outlining the goals of the project and the development of the online registry, papers addressed political art, censorship, and the archiving of creative work. The COURAGE team in Bratislava joined forces with the team from Charles University in Prague. The event was open to the public.
