Solidarity Posters Collection

Le Pion De Moscou (A Pawn of Moscow) French poster depicts General Wojciech Jaruzelski, head of the authoritarian communist government of Poland, as a pawn on the chessboard. He is firmly placed on the bleeding map of the country. Jaruzelski whose face lacks a mouth, a feature which implies the absence of any free will, is accompanied by other pawns that resemble Kremlin's domes. In all likelihood, the poster was conceived during the martial law period which lasted from 13 December 1981 to 22 July 1983 and met with vehement protests in France.
